oil on board, signed on reverse and inscribed in both pencil and ink "Eskimo Tents, Pangnirtung, Baffin Island Lawren Harris", in pencil the number 23 is crossed out, inscribed "owned by BESS HARRIS 1442" and "BHE-79", label which has been removed and #24 in red, frame inscribed in pencil crayon "BOX 20" and "2. Eskimo tents, Pangnirtung, Baffin Island" and "BME-79"
Provenance: Label from The Elsie Perrin Williams Memorial Art Museum, London, Canada, Box 8, No. 12, gift from Bess and Lawren Harris, with accompanying letter: 'December 8, 1965, Dear..., Play with these sketches on your walls until you know which is the one you would like to remain there - Take time - There is no hurry. They are not dated but I think "Algonquin Park" was the first - the weather was cold - the paint was stiff. It was perhaps the winter of 1917 or 1918. - The fast running water and the wood interior were both Algoma country painted in 1919 and 1920. The Baffin Island sketch was done in 1930 when Lawren and AY. Jackson went to the Arctic as guests of the Government on S.S.
